A Short Biography

Norwegian born artist Sigrid Tune moved with her family from Norway,  to Victoria B.C. Canada. There she stayed for several years until her mothers adventurous spirit gave Sigrid the opportunity to travel with her. She was artistically influenced at a young age by her father who earned his masters degree in art from the University of Oslo. Absorbing all she could while holding down jobs and traveling there was no time for formal education. Instead Sigrid studied techniques and methods of her favorite artists using everything available to her in the way of books, videos and artistic friends and applied them to her own works.

Before deciding on painting Sigrid studied acting with Ben Bard of Beverly Hills and had a small part at MGM in the movie The Prize starring Paul Newman. She also did a short singing stint with her Hollywood room mate ending up on a tour that featured Dick and Dee Dee , D.D. Sharp and also The Temptations. Life was full of exciting adventures. Settling in Topanga and  Malibu, California for some years, gave Sigrid the friendship of many creative individuals in all art forms. Then, after having lived several years in a small town in the heart of Mexico, Sigrid took painting seriously.

In 1983 she opened a public invited studio-gallery on Main St. downtown Ventura, California. For the next 14 years Sigrid was commissioned by people from all walks of life. She painted for lawyers, priests, politicians (Ventura's congresswoman Roz McGrath) doctors, nurses, musicians, screenwriters, directors, jewelers, actresses, film producers, chefs, shop owners plus more. She worked mainly in oil, but also pencil and acrylic. " I was married at the time and my husband deserves all the credit for being so loving and supportive. Because of him I was able to spend a lot of time behind the easel. He was a true inspiration to me."

Sigrid paints jazz legend Rahsaan Roland Kirk

Invited by  jazz musician Henry Franklin in 1997, he built her an art studio in a country setting. 16 years later, away from city life( 2012) Sigrid is equally as prolific. "Ideas and more ideas, just too many to execute." She describes the artistic attempt as a process of establishing relations with the subject. "In a portrait, you become that person or animal for the time that you are painting it. It's a very demanding process, a meditative creative state."

Sigrid also worked as a layout artist for a large mail order company, creating layouts of products that were advertised in their 6 catalogs, also designing many of their catalog covers. "I loved the pressure and deadlines involved with that, but it left little time for my own art." In addition she has designed Jazz CD covers, magazine covers and painted indoor and outdoor murals. "I thank God every day for blessing me with all this creative energy. It's a wonderful gift."
